North Adams sweeps Manchester Cheer Championships

On Saturday, Nov. 11, Manchester High School was host to the 2017 Manchester Cheer Championships, with 13 different high school and junior high squads competing for the title before a large and boisterous crowd of supporters. The Nov. 11 Cheer Championships involved squads from the Southern Hills Athletic Conference, but the competition is non-affiliated with the SHAC, and organized mainly by all of the various cheerleading coaches.

Search continues for missing Pike County woman

The daughter of a missing 77-year-old woman in southern Ohio has been arrested and charged with credit-card misuse while a search continues for her mother. Pike County Court Judge Paul Price set a $10,000 bond for Tracy L. Sowards at her arraignment Wednesday morning on the fifth-degree felony charge, a court spokeswoman said.

Recently, I had an opportunity, along with several of the administrative staff of the Adams County/Ohio Valley School District, to listen to Mr. Jamie Vollmer. Mr. Vollmer, author of the book, “Schools Cannot Do It Alone”, was once a harsh critic of public education.

Ernie McFarland honored by Ohio Bankers League

Ernie McFarland of Manchester, former President of Adams County's First State Bank, was honored Wednesday, Nov. 8 in a ceremony held at the Ohio Bankers League annual event in Columbus. McFarland will appear on the foundation's “Wall of Excellence” which highlights individuals who have contributed significant leadership to the banking industry.

Veterans Day parade, ceremony held in West Union

Flags lined both sides of the stairs leading up to the doors of the Adams County Courthouse as part of the Veterans Day ceremony held on Saturday, Nov. 11. Veterans and residents from across Adams County gathered on Saturday, Nov. 11 to celebrate Veterans Day with a parade and ceremony held at Courthouse Square in West Union. Spectators cheered on members of Seaman's American Legion Post 633 as they led local vets, representing every branch of military service, down Main Street, their parade flags waving in the cold November air.

Adams County schools celebrate Veterans Day

Veterans assembled at ceremonies on Nov. 9 at Manchester High School stand at attention as the MHS Choir sang the National Anthem. A tradition at North Adams High School is to have the veterans escorted to the ceremony by students from the school.

Traffic Alert: Sr 41 restrictions set for Saturday

Temporary, single-lane restrictions will be in place on State Route 41 in Adams County this Saturday, November 18, for a training exercise by the Peebles Fire Department. From approximately 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., crews from the local fire department will conduct a controlled burn of a structure that is located just north of S.R. 32 and C.R. 41 , near the southern corporation limit of Peebles.
