ACOVSD announces 2017-18 policy for free and reduced lunches

The Adams County Ohio Valley School District announced this week its 2017-2018 program year policy for free and reduced-price meals for students unable to pay the full price of meals or milk served under the National School Lunch and School Breakfast, After School Care Snack or Special Milk Program. Each school office and the central office has a copy of the policy, which may be reviewed by any interested party.

George’s Brave Shave’ benefits other

One of Adams County's own will soon be leaving to take up the service of his country, but before departing, he left many Adams County fairgoers with a reminder of his dedication, community spirit, and his loyalty to his home county. George Hesler, the son of Bill and Jane Hesler of Cherry Fork recently enlisted with the Navy Nuclear Operations program and is scheduled to leave on July 27. George is known for his long, flowing hair but after last Saturday night, that exists no longer.

SSCC moving forward with plans for Adams County campus

Southern State Community College is moving forward on plans to bring a campus to Adams County. During a July 19 special meeting, the college's Board of Trustees voted to approve the purchase of land in West Union.

McCartya s receive 4-H Alumni award

Donald and Janice McCarty of West Union have been chosen as the recipients of the 2017 4-H Alumni Award for their dedication and support of 4-H in Adams County. The award was presented to the couple during the Opening Ceremonies of the 126th Adams County Fair on Sunday, July 9. The McCarty's, who share about 110 years of combined 4-H involvement, say they were surprised when they learned they had been chosen to receive the award.

McKayla Raines crowned 2017 Junior Fair Queen

McKayla Raines, daughter of Todd and Melanie Rains of Seaman, was crowned Queen of the 126th Adams County Fair Sunday evening. Raines says she wasn't expecting to win, but couldn't be happier about the outcome.
