Three in race for school board

Adams County voters will have the opportunity to choose two of three candidates for the Ohio Valley School District School Board this election year. Two of the candidates, Kent Bauman and Charlie Bess are incumbents seeking re-election, the third candidate, Sarah McDaniel is seeking election for the first time.

Humane Society to provide straw for dog houses

Stop in at the Humane Society’s new Animal Shelter on Tuesdays through Saturdays between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to pick up flakes of straw for your pet. Thanks to a very generous discount on straw prices by local farmer Maurice Knauff of Peebles, the Humane Society is able to afford to offer the straw for free to residents who are experiencing financial difficulties and cannot afford straw to insulate their pets’ outdoor doghouses this winter.

Peebles schools placed on lock down

Peebles High School and Elementary were put on lock down on Friday, Oct. 16 while Sheriff’s deputies and the town police searched for a man wanted for shoplifting at the First Stop gas station at the 41 and 73 intersection outside Peebles. Michael Anthony Waller was released from the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility at 8:00 a.m. Three hours later he was back in handcuffs on his way to Adams County jail.

Sally the dog is all healed up

In a follow-up to a story from The People’s Defender last month, Sally, the five-year-old Beagle mix is all healed and ready for a new home. Sally was a homeless female dog being housed at the Humane Society of Adams County’s animal shelter in West Union.

4-H looking for volunteers

According to the county extension office the program’s most immediate need is for volunteers from the Manchester and West Union areas. Existing clubs in those communities are bursting at the seams with interested members, and several have reached capacity.
