Adams County chief deputy pleads not guilty to rape of minor charge

Rear-end collision sends five to hospital

Three children were injured and transported by ambulances from the scene of a multiple vehicle accident in the afternoon of Thursday, Feb. 13. First responders arrived on scene at Eckmansville Road to find a rear-end collision between two cars. Jeremy Burns, 30, of Peebles, was driving southbound on Eckmansville Road in a red, 2012 Nissan Sentra while being followed by Lora Zimmerman, 34, of Winchester, driving a red, 2006 Dodge Charger.

Sheriff grateful for humvee

Those driving the roads of Adams County on Presidents Day, Monday, Feb. 16, may have seen the Sheriff’s Office had a deputy patrolling in a military surplus humvee. Fox 19’s Local News featured the vehicle in a segment in their Monday evening news, showing how the humvee has been a great addition to the Sheriff’s fleet of vehicle.

Library extends hours of operation

The Adams County Public Library Board of Trustees, Director, and staff are excited to announce an increase in open hours for all branches of the Adams County Public Library. Starting March 2, all four libraries will be open from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m., Monday through Thursday, and will continue to be open 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

Chief Deputy arrested for rape

Chief Deputy Jeffrey McCarty, 46, was arrested on Sunday, Feb. 15 on first-degree felony charges of rape involving an underage girl. The serious allegations have been under investigation since Monday, Jan. 5. Upon learning of the allegations, Sheriff Kimmy Rogers states that he requested that David Kelley, Adams County Prosecutor, perform an independent investigation.

Grand Jury indicts seven

Arthur D. Moman, 56, of Manchester, was arraigned on Friday, Feb. 6, after being indicted on one count of murder by the Adams County Grand Jury on Thursday, Feb. 5 for the stabbing death of Ricky Francis, 32, of Manchester, on Monday, Feb. 2. Judge Brett Spencer of the Common Pleas Court set Moman’s bond at $500,000. Murder is a special felony with a penalty of imprisonment for an indefinite term of 15 years to life.
