Woman found dead on Christmas

Christmas morning was interrupted in West Union by the sound of sirens. At 10:17 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 25, emergency personnel were dispatched to a mobile home a Ronald Avenue in West Union in response to an anonymous call for a non-breathing individual, according to Sheriff Kimmy Rogers.

Accident under investigation

The Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a single-vehicle accident that lead to a death on Tuesday, Dec. 23 on South Main Street in Peebles. Genevieve C. Elliott, 81, of Peebles was driving a gray, 2002 Audi Allroad southbound on South Main Street in Peebles, when she drove off the right side of the road and struck a utility pole, coming to a rest partially on the highway.

Senior Citizens closed New Year’s Day

The Adams County Senior Citizens Council and Senior Center would like to wish everyone a very wonderful and prosperous New Year! The A.C. Senior Citizens Office will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1 but will be open on Friday, Jan. 2, 2015. Gentle Chair Yoga will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 30 at regular time.

Have a Merry Christmas

The Humane Society of Adams County held its Christmas Open House event from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 16, at the new Animal Shelter in West Union. Guests were treated to live music by Erika Wickline, photos with Santa, delicious treats like hot cocoa, cider, cookies, and fruit, and behind-the-scenes tours of the Animal Shelter conducted by volunteers and Board members.

Library News

The Adams County Public Library is partnering with the Adams County Genealogical Society to offer a series of DIY Genealogy Classes at the Adams County Library. AmeriCorps member Melissa Downs, serving at the Adams County Public Library as part of Guiding Ohio Online; and Ethel Chambers and Becky Reed, from the Adams County Genealogical Society; will teach a series of genealogy classes at the library each month.

New kiosk built for Serpent Mound

With approval from the Arc of Appalachia and the Ohio History Connection, the Adams County Travel and Visitors Bureau was able to construct a new visitor information kiosk at Serpent Mound. The kiosk will feature information about Adams County events and happenings.

Adams Recycling holiday hours announced

Adams County Waste and Recycling will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 31 and Thursday, Jan. 1 for New Year’s. Regular hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., closed Wednesday and Sunday.
